Hailing from San Francisco, I studied Art History and Textile design as an undergrad. After waiting tables and spending all of my money on records, I decided to do an MFA in Fashion and Textile Design. During this time I discovered my love of screen printing, and knew the combination of construction design with my own prints, was the only way I could execute this kind of work.
After moving to Los Angeles, I started my own clothing company, Recreation. I couldn’t find the type of clothes I was interested in being made. I also feel that the future of fashion and the environment is bleak. The time is now to make environmentally responsible business decisions when choosing materials. I decided to use only organic cotton and hemp for my collection and business. My concern is quality over quantity, and supporting environmentally sound fabric mills.
